For the past ten weeks, Carr Manor High’s Y10 xl team have been extremely active. Their intergenerational cooking project with the Feel Good Factor team, has seen them working in the local community at Astura Court (sheltered / Retirement Housing). They had to research, buy ingredients for, and learn how to make a variety of healthy three course meals. This included options such as smoothies, leek and potato soup, chicken curry and apple crumble. This project will go towards the ‘Improving Own Learning and Performance’ part of their Asdan CoPE qualification. As well as cooking they have also learnt about healthy eating and food hygiene. The xl team have really enjoyed this project. They have put their learning into practice to show the residents of Astura court how to make the individual food dishes. The cooking project has been a great success and the residents had great fun working with the young people. One resident said ‘We will really miss working with the pupils, we have learnt a lot from this experience’. The intergenerational project has been so successful that the Feel Good Factor Project and Astura Court are keen to continue working with Carr Manor High School’s pupils as soon as possible. This was an invaluable experience for pupils and residents who have gained new skills and formed valuable friendships. For more info go to www.fgfleeds.org
